docUNight | A Fox Under A Pink Moon

november 12 @ 16:30 - 19:00

Join us for a docUNight screening of the award-winning documentary “A Fox Under the Pink Moon” in UN City Copenhagen!

The film tells the story of Soraya – a young Afghan artist who began filming her life at age 16 in Iran. Her journey spans from Afghanistan through Iran to Europe and is shaped by the realities faced by many people forced to flee and be on the move, including gender-based violence, dangerous migration journeys, displacement, refugee protection, and determination to rebuild her life.

Dive into a conversation about the realities faced by people on the move – with Soraya Ghaderi herself, the film’s director Mehrdad Oskouei, Afghan activists and journalists, IOM (the International Organization for Migration), and UNHCR (the UN Refugee Agency).

Together, we will explore: What really happens after someone is forced to leave? What does meaningful protection along displacement and migration journeys look like? And what helps people regain safety, agency, and the possibility of shaping what comes next?

ABOUT THE FILM

A Fox Under the Pink Moon tells the story of Soraya Ghaderi, a young Afghan sculptor and illustrator who began filming her life at the age of 16 while living in Iran. She puts all her worries, joys, and fears into her drawings and the sculptures she makes from soaked egg cartons or clay that she finds along her escape routes. Many of her drawings feature recurring figures: a loyal fox who is her traveling companion, a pink moon that always watches over her, and a clown who ever laughs—a character Soraya identifies with. Using Soraya’s own footage alongside animation and documentary storytelling, director Mehrdad Oskouei follows both the uncertainty of her journey and her determination to continue making art and rebuilding her life. Through one young woman’s experience, the film opens a wider window onto forced displacement, gender-based violence, dangerous migration routes, refugee protection, and what it can mean to hold on to identity and aspirations while searching for somewhere safe to begin again.
