CPH:DOX x docUNight: ‘The Walk’ Screening & Discussion

March 18 @ 17:00 - 19:30

Join us for a special CPH:DOX x docUNight screening of the documentary film ‘The Walk’, which reveals the story of Asil, a young Syrian refugee, as she processes the trauma of losing her family and home. Watch as her story gives voice to a gigantic puppet named Amal – representing the millions of migrant and displaced children in a walk from the Syrian border in Türkiye across Europe. Escorted and animated by a group of puppeteers who are themselves refugees, Amal’s epic journey is one of compassion, discovery, and hope.

With this year’s CPH:DOX theme centred around the ‘body’, dive into a discussion on the many bodies travelling across borders as a consequence of conflict, climate change, persecution, and more with:

Maja Lazic – Deputy Head of the Joint Data Centre on Forced Displacement, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency

Manilla Ghafuri – Chairperson of Rapolitics, recipient of the Institute for Human Rights’ Human Rights Award (2022), and former refugee from Afghanistan

Anders Ladekarl – Secretary General of the Red Cross in Denmark

and Jakob Sheikh – Head of Communication and Engagement at the Danish Institute for Human Rights as moderator.

17:00 Welcome by Flemming Johannesen (Head of UN City Communications)

17:10 Screening of ‘The Walk’ (79 mins, in Arabic with English subtitles)

18:30 Panel Discussion and Q&A

19:15 End of event
