docUNight: BORDERLANDS

Join us for a special docUNight screening of ‘Borderlands’ – a profound visual exploration of life in Africa’s borderland regions, where 270 million people navigate daily challenges with unique resilience and innovation.
African border regions are often characterised by conflict, limited state presence, marginalisation, and lack of access to basic services and opportunities. However, these areas also hold significant potential for innovation, trade, and sustainable development. They are hubs of creativity and local solutions to some of today’s global crises.
In exploring individual stories from across Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Uganda, Nigeria, Niger, Benin, and Cameroon, the film reveals the realities of borderland life, where survival and adaptation are intertwined with efforts to maintain cultural identity and foster economic growth. More than a documentary, ‘Borderlands’ serves to bring the stories of borderland communities to an international audience, fostering action, influencing policy, and rallying resources for inclusive, sustainable development.
Produced by the UNDP Africa Borderlands Centre, through vivid storytelling and intimate portrayals, ‘Borderlands’ reveals how inhabitants of these regions are crafting sustainable futures against a backdrop of socio-economic and environmental challenges – underscoring the importance of solidarity and shared responsiblity in fostering sustainable development across the continent.
