UN Women
UN Women is the United Nations entity dedicated to gender equality and women’s empowerment. A global champion for women and girls, UN Women was established to accelerate progress on meeting their needs worldwide. It also coordinates and promotes the UN system’s work in advancing gender equality.
UN Women supports UN Member States as they set global standards for achieving gender equality, and works with governments, the private sector, international financial institutions, and civil society to design laws, policies, programmes and services needed to ensure that the standards are effectively implemented and truly benefit women and girls worldwide.
It works globally to make the vision of the Sustainable Development Goals a reality for women and girls and stands behind women’s equal participation in all aspects of life, focusing mainly on four key areas:
· Leadership and political participation
· Economic empowerment and autonomy
· Gender-based violence
· Peace and security & humanitarian action
UN Women in UN City
UN Women’s Nordic Office is located in UN City Copenhagen. The office works with resources mobilization and strategic partnerships in the Nordics to mobilize partners to engage in and fund gender equality.
The key role of the office is to act as a link between the Nordic governments, government officials, and key decision-makers, as well as UN Women’s Nordic national committees. It also coordinates cooperation with the private sector, the Nordic Council of Ministers, the media, civil society, and the other UN agencies based in Copenhagen.
