UN Women launches global campaign: 16 Days of Activism – Against Gender-Based Violence

Copenhagen, 22 November 2019

November 25th marks the beginning of UN Women’s global campaign ‘Orange the World’ which takes place every year during ‘16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence’ between November 25th, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and December 10th, the Human Rights Day. The campaign is part of the United Nations Secretary-General’s UNiTE to End Violence against Women.

Despite worldwide mobilisations led by survivors and activists in recent years through movements such as #MeToo, violence against women and girls continues in every country. Still today, one in three women are impacted by this violence. Therefore this year’s theme is Generation Equality Stands Against Rape! and focuses on the rape culture that prevails in our society, whether in situations of conflict, peace, in our homes or at the streets, and that we must address now.

Our vision is to create global awareness, and last year, over 500 activities were held in over 80 countries, with 54 iconic landmarks illuminated in orange around the world.

Join us in challenging ending rape culture and making the world a safer place for women and girls!
