UN City Personnel gathered for Flag Raising Ceremony in Pride Week

On August 13, UN City personnel gathered in front of UN City in Copenhagen for Copenhagen Pride week Flag Raising Ceremony. The Ceremony initiates UN City’s involvement in the coming Pride in Copenhagen where UN City personnel will focus on celebrating human rights and the United Nation’s work towards equality and inclusion.

Sonya Donnelly, Protection Officer at UNHCR and Vice President at UN Globe, introduced the Flag Raising Ceremony with the words: ”Within the UN, and globally, UN must work for real change for the LGBT+ community”.

Grete Faremo, Executive Director of UNOPS and UN Under-Secretary-General, initiated the Flag Raising by stating:

“Today the rainbow flag flies in celebration of human rights and work towards equality for all. I am happy to be with you here to mark Copenhagen Pride Week, adding a face and a voice to those who say no to injustice. Let’s work together to build a safe and caring workplace and a generous, more inclusive world”

UN City personnel will be participating in the Pride Parade in Copenhagen on Saturday August 17, in which UN personnel and their families will march with other organizations fighting for improving human rights for the LGBT+ community.
