Game of Thrones star and UN Development Programme Goodwill Ambassador Nikolaj Coster-Waldau to referee Global Goals World Cup women’s soccer tournament in Nairobi

Who: Globally acclaimed Danish actor, star of HBO’s Game of Thrones and United Nations Development Programme Goodwill Ambassador Nikolaj Coster-Waldau; Ugandan youth advocate, Nobel Peace Prize nominee and United Nations Global Goals Ambassador for Peace Victor Ochen; Danish Minister for Higher Education and Science Ulla Pedersen Tørnæs and Iraqi-born drummer and member of Danish pop trio L.I.G.A. Ihan Haydar.

What: Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, the Danish actor best known for starring as Jaime Lannister in the HBO series Game of Thrones, will referee a Global Goals-themed women’s soccer tournament in Nairobi, Kenya.

The regional tournament, which has been organized in partnership with UNDP, Eir-Soccer, the Royal Danish Embassy, Safaricom and Save the Children, will bring together 24 teams of passionate women who will be competing for a spot in the global final to be held in New York City in September 2017.

As UNDP’s newest Goodwill Ambassador, Coster-Waldau is looking forward to blowing the whistle on poverty by supporting the 17 Global Goals, agreed by world leaders to tackle our planet’s toughest challenges by 2030. Also known as the Sustainable Development Goals, their aim is to create a shared vision of a future where poverty, inequality and climate change are a thing of the past.
